Boy Wallets

My boys are always asking for me to make them something.  I love that they want something made from me, but I never really know what to make them.  Since starting our savings for Disney they have been talking about wallets.  So I made them some.

 I used Ashley's tutorial from Cherished Bliss.
 My 6 year old gets the football wallet, and my oldest who is 8 gets the colorful robot one.

 Both of them have four pockets a piece for cards.
 And a space for their bills.  Which they haven't stopped asking for since getting the wallets.  HA.

The tutorial is pretty easy, if you are able to follow directions....unfortunately I am not.  It took me a few hours to figure these out.  OOPS.  But I kept re-reading, and finally figured them out.  And I'm glad I stuck with it.  They both love them!

Work it out Wednesday {I DID IT!!}

Happy Wednesday Friends!

I did it. I completed The Warrior Dash! {Warning, heavy pictures to follow}
 I have earned my first Finishers Medal.

This is what I had to sign before starting.  It basically says that I may die, and my family will do nothing to them for it.  HA.

I wanted to take a picture of every.single.thing.  This is SO out of my "comfort" zone that it HAD to be documented well.  :)

This was before the race.  I was so nervous.  Trying to find every excuse not to do it.  The husband wouldn't let me, though.  Thank God for my pushy husband.  I don't know that I have EVER been so proud of myself, or felt so accomplished until the ending of this course.

Here is how it went.  The beginning was a one mile run.  I am used to running on pavement, and this was in fields.  The difference from running on concrete, and running in fields is HUGE.  I am not as far along as I thought in the cardio area.  It was hard.

One mile in started the obstacles.  They weren't bad.  I would fly through them.  Even left the husband on most of them.  But he would always catch up to me in the runs.  Some of the obstacles were climbing walls with a rope, jumping over fire, low crawling under barbed wire, tire stepping, climbing over cars, and the last (hardest one) was crawling in neck deep muddy water with barbed wire above you, so you couldn't stand.  That one freaked me out.  Big time.  Seems as though I'm a little scared of not being in control.  Scary.

And I'm not going to lie.  As soon as I crossed the finish line, I lost it.  Yep, I threw up.  Luckily I hadn't ate in 4 hours by that time (Two hours drive time, plus an hour wait.)  It was just water than I had drank during the course.  The husband always says that when working out, if you throw up, then you know you gave 110% and maxed out your "fitness".  So I guess I did good.  The times came out, and I finished in just under an hour.  I was in the middle time frame for my age group.  I think I can deal with that.  But I would like to get better.
This picture was after I had "washed off".  As you can tell, we have red mud here in Tennessee.  Final verdict, will I do it again?  YES!  I need to work on my cardio some more.  But ultimately the "high" I had after the race totally outweighs the work that went into it.

It was a HUGE confidence booster for me.  I am very glad I didn't back out.  And I may be doing another one similar to this in a few months.  Checking out the details now.

I will update with the course pictures that were taken as soon as they become available.  As long as they don't look completely horrible.  :)

Living Room Reveal

I am finished with my living room.

At the beginning of the year I asked for help with my living room.  You can find that post, here. But here is a picture to judge against.  It was empty, and boring.  I like color, if you haven't figured that out yet.  So it had to change.

Now, back to the fun pictures.  The kids had pictured made this summer by my sister, and I loved them.  I knew they needed to be shown off.

This wall isn't technically done yet.  I have a HUGE wreath that I am going to hang above the TV.  Right now it is fall, but I think I will change it out with the seasons.

This is looking in from the front door.

A higher view.  I still love my new tables.  All three of them.

I'm love this wall.  It makes me happy with all the different colors.

So what do you think?  Better?  I think so!

Here are the links to the tutorials for everything I did in the room.

Football Wreath {Tutorial}

It's Football Season.

I'm not much for football, but, this year I seem to be a little more interested than last year.  I'm happy with that.  So I decided to make a new football wreath to help get me in the mood a little more.

Here is what I used:
Burlap
Paper bags
Ribbon
Paint
Brown fabric (for lining)

First, I cut two pieces of burlap, and one piece of lining.  I made a lining piece to go behind the front piece of the burlap, so that you weren't able to see the paper bag.

I started painting with the dark brown to make the football.  I just left the spots for the white sides, and T blank.

I added the white stripes, and the T.  It takes a few coats to get the burlap to be covered well.

Then I stapled the front and back together.  I put the "lining" piece behind the front piece of burlap, and crinkled up the brown paper bags and slid them inside.

Next, I stapled the ribbon on the back, at the top.

And I called it done.  I'm happy with how it turned out.  And so is the husband.

Thrifty Thursday {Clothes Re-do}

One of the best ways to save money is by "re-doing" items you already have and making them work for you.  I have been seeing jean and lace shorts everywhere lately.  And I love them.  Lucky me I had some "spare" shorts that were too tight around my leg, and I knew the perfect way to fix that.

A few months ago my Mother In Law gave me a box full of lace and other stuff.  I found these lace pieces, and knew they would be perfect.  I cut up the size of my shorts on the outside seam on each side, all the way up to right under the top of the lace piece.

I pined the lace in place, separating the seams a little to stretch the leg out so it would fit better.  Next I sewed them on.

I just went around the edges with white thread.  After sewn in, and I checked to make sure the legs fit good, I cut out the "extra" jean material.

Here they are on.

I am completely happy with how they turned out.  I have already worn them a few times, with a few different tops trying to "style" them right.  I think this one works.  What do you think?

Work It Out Wednesday {Plans Change}

Happy Wednesday.  I am back!  This past week has been better for me.  Unfortunately, plans change.

I received an email this week that stated the place for The Warrior Dash has been moved.  And it moved further away. Two hours away.  I don't really think that the further drive, and what I have to do to get a sitter for my kiddos is worth completing it.  But, I suppose I will stay with it.  I know that when I finish it will all be worth it to be able to wear my hat.  HA.

Anywho, here is what I did this week.

Wednesday - Crossfit

Thursday - Nothing

Friday - Nothing

Saturday - Ran  miles

Sunday - Nothing

Monday - Crossfit

Tuesday - Was planning on running, but it rained.  BOO!

What do you say?  Should I keep with my plan and go?

Houndstooth Pants

A few weeks ago I ran up on a great remnant sale at Wal-Mart!  I bought some fabulous hot pink and brown houndstooth fabric, and I knew exactly what I wanted to make with it.

 I love ruffle bottom pants on sweet little girls.

I love how the colors can go from the end of summer into fall just by changing out shirts.

The only thing I am worried about it Riley actually wearing them.  She doesn't tend to wear things that I make her.  Hopefully these pants will change that, because I love them.
